On Thursday December 12, BarBurrito opened Hamilton’s newest Tex-Mex restaurant across from West Village Suites. Just a short walk from McMaster’s campus, this is the first spot in the area to offer breakfast burritos and coffee in addition to lunch and dinner.

The joint will be headed by Asam, a British entrepreneur from London with degrees in IT, computer engineering, and BBA management. He started in the food business with owning a Baskin Robbins store, then expanded out with Kernels popcorn, a second Baskin Robbins location, and eventually a Popeyes kitchen.

Asam ventured into BarBurrito because he was impressed with the fresh-cooked meat and quality ingredients. He admits, « The process has been overwhelming, but in a good way…[it] made me stay very humble and the transition of opening was very smooth. » He aspires to achieve the top performance across the 100+ BarBurrito locations and to win franchisee awards.

Though Asam loves the chicken quesadillas at BarBurrito, in a perfect world, he would eat cereal for every meal (especially Frosted Flakes). If he’s lucky enough to get free time, he spends it with his wife and his 2 tots, a 5-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl.

Whether he is raising funds for firefighters’ families with Baskin Robbins, or hosting a customer appreciation event with CFL player Chad Owens, Asam is no stranger to getting involved and giving back. With previous restaurant experience tucked under his belt, he is excited to continue to cater to Mac students and the Hamilton community as a whole.
