BRAMPTON, Ontario – Mar. 28, 2019 – To tackle hunger in the community, the new BarBurrito restaurant in Brampton will host a food drive on Saturday April 6th. All donations will benefit Knight’s Table food bank and can be exchanged for a $5 regular classic burrito at 30 Coventry Rd.
In Peel region, 1 in 5 children live below the poverty line. Food banks like Knights Table are crucial to the community. For over 27 years, they have worked to alleviate hunger by serving 79 000+ meals and distributing 700 000+ pounds of food to families.
Kathy turned to Knights Table after a messy divorce left her as a jobless single mother. With their help, she was able to find employment and support her daughter. She recalls, “The food we received was a life saver for us. But this place also is inspiring to see so many people helping each other. Working with the staff and volunteers here gave me so much more than food. It gave me hope and a safe haven.”
Vijay Patel, the owner of the Brampton BarBurrito on Coventry Rd, is excited to be partnering with Knights Table to give back to his community. He explains, “I live and work in Brampton. We want to help our neighbours who have no access to food or clothes.”
This is BarBurrito’s fifth location in Brampton and they want to thank the city for embracing their restaurants. “Our brand has grown rapidly from 1 location to 85 locations in the span of a decade”, states company president Alex Shtein. “We plan to have over 100 restaurants by Aug 2019, and that wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Canadian communities that have welcomed us.”
On Saturday April 6th, bring your donations to 30 Coventry Road to enjoy a regular classic burrito for only $5. Knights Table is in need of the following items:
- Breakfast supplies – cereal (hot and cold), pancake mix, syrup (high demand)
- Hygiene products – soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste (high demand)
- Pasta sauce
- Canned meat
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Snacks – puddings, Jello, granola bars
- Juices & drink boxes
- Water
- Diapers (size 3 in high demand)
- Sanitary products – toilet paper, pads, tampons
